I grew up in England and for as long as I can remember I have had a deep interest in the healing arts, and a great respect for the birthing journey. I trained as nurse then had five children of my own and went on to qualify as a midwife in 1999. I have attended many birth related conferences and courses including visiting the farm in Tennessee with Ina May Gaskin author of Spiritual Midwifery. I moved to Australia six years ago and I have practiced as a doula. Two of my own daughters have had babies, yes making me a very proud Nana, I felt honoured and privileged to be at their births. As a mother, doula, chilbirth educator and naturopath I believe that every woman has the right to birth where she wants, how she wants and with who she wants. My varied experiences in my own births and within my doula practise has brought me to a place where I feel extremely confident to support birthing women within the many different aspects of birth. Working all through the Greater Sydney area I am based in South Western Sydney and find that my ability to create a calm, informed and relaxed environment within a birth scenario can help women to achieve the birth that they want, and help them navigate any interventions and issues that may come up. I believe that preparation is paramount and focus on thorough preparation leading up to the birth through child birth education, planning and preparing the body and emotions for the experiences of labour, birth and parenthood. Some added tools I can bring to your birth experience if you wish include; hypnosis/meditation for birth, natural medicine in preparation for labour and during the birth, massage, aromatherapy and reflexology. I believe my role is to support you to feel empowered to birth your baby in any way that you want.

As long as I can remember I have been drawn to babies and birth. The births of my two children have been so life changing that I found a new vocation to become a doula. I feel blessed to be sharing such a special journey with couples as they prepare for birth, and to witness the arrival of their bundle of joy. Every birth I attend is a miracle and a priviledge to be a part of. I believe that a doula's presence, knowledge, wisdom, and trust in the birth process ensures a positive experience, whatever the outcome. Continuity of care is so important in creating a safe haven for a birthing mother to bring her baby into the world. I also encourage fathers to play an active role during the birth, if they desire. My special interest is in VBAC births, as I have experienced one myself with my son Julian. It was such an incredibly empowering and joyous birth. I have experience in a range of births, including hypnobirthing, using Juju's techniques for pain management, water births, calm births in both private and public hospitals. My ultimate goal is to support couples in achieving a fulfilling birth, by advocating for their wishes and ensuring that they are fully informed during any decision making.

The birth of my first child, now 9 years, was a surprisingly lonely and isolating experience, which was over medicalised and ultimately disempowering. Apart from my partner, there was no one who attended me that I had ever met before arriving at hospital in labour. Looking back, I can clearly see what a difference support from someone I knew and trusted, and a woman who had “walked the walk” would have made, and how my labour may have proceeded very differently. I have since birthed three more children, gently and peacefully into water, the last at home, supported by nurturing women who believed, as I do, in the normalcy of birth — and the experience has changed my life and my view of birth. I am passionate about birth support and a firm believer in the power of information, choice and respect. I believe that having a strong and knowledgeable support team is the key to a positive birth experience. As a doula, I see my role as a source of information and education, as an advocate for your wishes and as a source of emotional and physical support before, during and after your birth. I do not replace your partner, but rather give reassurance that they are not alone in supporting you. After completing my training in 2006, I have gained experience attending a range of births including homebirth, waterbirth, lotus birth, hypnobirth, VBAC, HBAC, emergency caesarean, private and public hospital births and birth centre. It is a privilege to share the journey to birth and parenthood. I am committed to giving pregnant women confidence in their innate ability to birth their babies in an environment in which they feel nurtured and safe.

I am the proud mother of one beautiful little human, now four years old. My journey to birth and beyond was a powerful experience, and the birth process is one that I honour and respect deeply... But what next? Whether it's your first baby or your fifth, the transition to motherhood does not end with the birth, rather, it marks the point at which a new phase of your journey begins. I believe that every woman, every family, should be supported and nurtured at this crucial time.

I believe a woman should be supported wherever and however she wishes to birth. My experience has taught me that offering a woman a safe, supported and calm space, with minimal distractions, creates the best environment for her to birth her baby. I have seen that the more a woman is encouraged to go within and follow her body's lead, the easier it is for her to birth. I support the father of the baby, if he wishes to be present, to be the primary caregiver, facilitating greater bonding and support between a couple.

While attending a friend’s birth as her support person, I was asked by the midwife if I was a doula? I answered no I’m just a friend! The midwife’s reply was – 'don’t put yourself down like that, you are doing an amazing job and you should be a doula, because I would love to use you at my next birth!' Well did that ever start things rolling, since then I have completed my doula training at the Australian Doula College and haven’t looked back. I had been attending births of family and friends for many years before actually becoming a doula. My interest in birth started when I had my first child 21 years ago at the Birth Centre at the Royal Women’s Hospital. I was very young and very naive, as the Birth Centre was very busy that day we were left on our own for most of the labour, both my partner and I were terrified. Not of the pain, just of the enormity of the occasion. With our second child I enlisted the help of a family member who was a nurse, however she had no midwifery experience, it made all the difference. My partner felt supported and not as scared and even though the birth was much more difficult it was a much more relaxed, calm and can I even say ‘fun’ day! This was the start of me knowing and understanding what a difference it makes to have support both for mum and dad. I believe women should feel empowered when giving birth. It is after all the most important day of your life. I want women to remember the birth of their children with joy and happy memories. Unfortunately today with the demands of the medical profession many women are feeling detached from their birth either because they were not supported or they were pressured into 'speeding' things along and having unnecessary interventions. I support women to make informed choices with regard to their place of birth, their choice of care giver and even when intervention is needed I encourage them to ask lots of questions and check for alternatives. With the right support the new parents feel more connected to their baby, breastfeeding is more successful and bonding with the new baby is much more enjoyable. I am very conscience of the role of the father, and believe that he is instrumental in making the mother feel safe and calm. I work very closely with the dads' and I also support him 100%. The birth of their child is just as important to the dad as it is to the mum and giving dad the space to be able to express his feelings is very worthwhile. If he feels supported he will be able to encourage his partner and the mother of his child to obtain the birth that they have planned for. Whether you are delivering at home, labour ward, birth centre, VBAC, repeat c-section or unplanned c-section I can help you make it a memorable day. Even if things do not go according to your plans I am able to help you make the most of this your baby’s birth day!

My interest in pregnancy and birth started when I was studying herbal medicine and body work therapies back in 1999. After graduating I wanted to focus my practice on women and children and a few years later I heard about a Doula training and enrolled in the course straight away. Finally I had found my heart’s true calling and started helping and supporting couples birth their babies the way they had chosen. I fell pregnant half way through the course and gave birth to my daughter at home, supported by my husband, our dear midwife, our darling doula and my best friend. It was one of the strongest moment of my life as I realised how blessed I was to have had the chance to birth my baby at home and with such trust and ease. Each woman needs to be informed and supported in her choices in order to have an empowering and positive experience of birth even if the outcome isn’t exactly what she had planned for. No one can know for sure how a birth will unfold for not two births are the same and every woman is different. Life is a miracle that needs to be celebrated every step of the way!

Even after this birth ended as an emergency caesarean, I learnt that you can have a wonderful birth in any environment when you feel safe and empowered. Having a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Caesarean) for my second birth has made me feel passionate about supporting women who choose this option. Hi, I am an experienced doula and I have been studying midwifery now for 3 years (nearly there), although part of me prefers the doula work! I developed a deep passion for serving women in birth while I was studying acupuncture at UTS and I now have an acupuncture practice in Manly specialising in women's wellbeing and pregnancy care. I have deep faith in women's power and ability to birth their babies in their own unique way and I am always in awe and honoured to be witness to that strength. I teach calmbirth® preparation classes, so many of my clients have done the calmbirth® course, while some have used Ju Ju's Birthskills, hypnobirthing or active birth techniques. Whatever works for each woman, I think there are as many ways to prepare (or not) and give birth as there are women that have ever lived, so no one thing works for everyone. I have supported women with with twins, VBACs, waterbirths, homebirths with a midwife, hospital and birth centre births and cesaereans. I support women's informed choices, so I like to provide unbiased information and will support whatever decisions each couple makes. I have plenty of resources to share including great books, DVDs, websites and access to the latest research. I can also offer acupuncture during labour if it is needed (although it's usually not, women are pretty amazing) and can teach your partner acupressure for labour if they are interested. You can see my website for more info: www.heathercrawford.com.au

I discovered the value of birth support during the births of my daughters and their very different birth experiences. I believe that birth is a natural physiological, emotional and spiritual process - the female body is designed to give birth. Women who are informed and supported well and with compassion can have fulfilling and empowering birth experiences. My role is to facilitate this process, giving the mother every opportunity to allow her birth to unfold and the early days and weeks of motherhood begin as gently as needed. I offer women practical advice, up to date information and compassionate and experienced care. I trained as a Doula through Optimum Birth in 2006 and I also completed the Advanced Certificate in 2007. I am an experienced remedial massage therapist having worked in both health spas and in private practice. I have a specific interest in pre and post-natal bodywork and the proven benefits to mother and baby. Please visit my website: www.birthcircle.com.au

I am a mother of two gorgeous children, an experienced, certified Doula or Birth Attendant, and a certified calmbirth® and HypnoBirthing® Practitioner, living in Byron Bay, NSW. My experiences around pregnancy, birth, and the intense and joyous time that follows, have taught me much about the incredibly powerful life-experience of birth and parenting. My belief is that birth is a transformational experience. Birth is rich with potential for growth, insight, deep human connection and meaning - for mother, partner, baby , family, and indeed all involved. It is when birthing mothers and their partners feel supported, are free of fear, are able to understand and embrace the natural, normal process of birth, to surrender and allow that process to unfold, that this potential becomes alive and accessible - providing a blueprint for love, security, trust and wisdom, as is Nature's design. It is from this place that me desire to be a Doula has grown: to offer support that helps the woman or couple experience the greatness of their own transformational journeys, to share in the wonder of new life entereing the world, and to connect with others in a unique and meaningful way. I continue to learn from the women and couples I support, and my belief in birth as a transformational experience is affirmed again and again.

I believe that every woman has the right to support during their birthing process, whatever their choices are. I became drawn to being a doula through an innate fascination and respect for pregnancy and birthing as a whole. I heard wonderful, empowered birthing stories which inspired me, but maybe even more stories of women who felt like they were spat out of a system with a baby in their arms, wondering what had happened. I wanted to hear more of the former.... more women proudly telling their birth stories from a position of empowerment. I work on a very client led basis- it's your birth, you tell me what you need. The options are all there.

I have had a range of birthing experiences and every one has been quite different. I have had 2 full term babies and 4 pre-term (early) babies.I am a trainee Doula,. I believe that women deserve to have a calm birth experience and that is what I aim to provide to my clients. I am currently the Victorian State Representative of Austprem Inc. and I can access any information if I need to. I live in a little town on the NSW/VIC border called Rutherglen and service all areas around, including Albury, Wodonga, Corowa, Wangaratta, Beechworth and other towns as well.

HI! I am a mother of 2 little boys, Thomas 5 and Rowan 4, and 1 little 1 year old girl Tessa. I birthed Thomas at hospital and Rowan and Tessa were both born into water at home. An empowering and life changing experience. I am a trained PDHPE teacher with a bachelor degree in human movement and health education, but supporting women in birth is my true passion. I believe that every woman should have choice in birth. I believe women should be supported and listened to, and am passionate about advocating for women in birth. As a doula I really want to educate, nurture, and support women through the birth process to achieve the birth outcome they want without agenda or judgement. Above all I feel my role is to hold the birth space for the woman and her partner or support people. I am there to protect this space so that the woman can focus and birth feeling safe, supported and empowered. In doing this I will provide birth information (from my growing library of birth resources, DVD's, books, etc), physical and emotional support to the birthing mother and family, and advocate on behalf of the mother to help avoid any unnecessary intervention. I feel completely confident in supporting women in a range of birth scenarios, including home births, hospital births, twins and VBACS. I have studied and myself used hypnobithing and feel confident in supporting women who may choose to use this as a birth option. In my service I offer 2-3 pre natal visits, support at the birth and 2 post natal visits. (Of course more if needed) I am trained in giving advice in birth options, natural pain relief methods, as well as physical and emotional support throughout the birth journey.

Lea's passion is to empower birthing women and their partners. She helps women approach birth with lots of options, skills and strategies - so that they are confident and never run out of options. During labour, Lea's doula work is inspired by the idea of the perfect waiter/waitress - she strives to do her job so well and so attentively that you don't even really notice she's there, you just know that your needs have been noticed and met. Her knowledge and experience as a childbirth educator enables Lea to provide detailed information about options as well as helping women work with their body during labour and birth - rather than against it. Her passion for working with birthing women has grown out of the wonderful births of her 3 children, and a desire to facilitate the same comprehensive and practical birth preparation and support that she had access to.

As artist, teacher & doula I am passionate about all forms of creativity. I love working with people, the physical body, art and creating space for rituals & ceremony. Where appropriate and desired, using voice & movement improvisation & both ancient & contemporary knowledge to assist deep connection & be grounded in my heart. I have been working as a Doula since 2008 and also as a theatre/art director & language teacher. I've enjoyed facilitating artistic and healing body ecology workshops with young children and adults also. I completed my Doula training with Optimum Birth (www.optimumbirth.com.au ) and attend regularly meets with a local and expanding community of Doula's at Birthing Rights Australia (www.birthingrites.com) in Bondi, Sydney. I've come to believe that within this original expression of life giving that all women and all babies intrinsically knows how to give birth. To see how natural & relevant for every woman it is to be part of and empowered by all aspects of baby & birthing culture, communing to learn, support and innovate together. I have really enjoyed learning from couples that are fully engaged in their roles as parents. It's an honor to assist them and their child. Holding space for a getting out of the way through nurturing, meditation & care. Nature then taking it's course during times of both difficulty and joy arising in pregnancy, labour & family life. The idea that every baby knows naturally how to be born and that every birthing experience is completely unique excites me and rings true to the mystery of life. These thoughts inspire the openness & intension I bring along with me. I've lots of practical/visual resource material also, a love of guiding meditations, discussion, holistic nutrition, creative play and a wealth of previous experience of nurturing and being nurtured by children. My first two birthing families were home births, both babes are now approx 10mths old and doing wonderfully well. It has been a spirited & joyously heart opening journey thus far, I feel blessed to be of service. I'm interested to support mum, dad & babe in letting go, surrendering and honoring this absolute miracle that is paradoxically the most normal everyday happening in the world. I am very happy to be either very active or subtly presence during the process of labour. I do have a preference of working with parents whom have some interest in holistic health & a wish to go the natural way as much as possible. I am however open to all diversities of locations, families and situations. I look forward to meeting with you in person & allowing my professional practice to be both of positive influence and flexible to with our shared journey together.

Firstly, I have had three births of my own (1 caesar, 2 natural) and as a consequence of my own experiences I have acquired a deep abiding affection for this miraculous process. As a doula, my ambition is to see mothers, like you, through their pregnancies and births with an optimal sense of serenity, richness of the experience and ultimately joyful anticipation of raising their precious child. Along with my husband, Ed, I also facilitate the Sydney Beer and Bubs workshops. Beer and Bubs is all about educating men on childbirth (with a counter meal and a beer in hand, of course!). I have attended numerous births over the past four years and in 2008 received accreditation through the internationally renowned Optimum Birth. I do not hold any dogmatic approach myself about one particular philosophy on pregnancy and childbirth, but rather seek to place a higher value on supporting you through finding your own approach that sits most right with your own body (and it’s natural capabilities) and heart. If a partner is there to take part in this process, I seek to enable that person to maximise their intended participation. It’s an enormous privilege to be part of another woman’s birth experience, especially to witness the sweet surprise that presents itself at the end of the birth journey.

Hi my name is Megan Jordan. I am a mother to two beautiful children, a qualified Doula and a calmbirth® practitioner. It was during the pregnancy of my second child that I knew that there was something more I could do to achieve a wonderful birth experience for myself, my husband and my new baby. I had heard about calmbirth® and the overwhelming positive feedback. I kept hearing from others who had taken part in the course how they had come to trust and understand their body in preparation for their wonderful birth experience. During the classes, I developed complete trust in my body as a woman and both my husband and I learnt some easy techniques to give us the birth we desired. We wanted a calm, loving, and fear free birth. With trust, and practice we achieved that together. My beautiful birth experience ignited the passion to lead me onto being a calmbirth® practitioner and a Doula. I wanted to let other couples know how empowering and wonderful this occasion can be. As a Doula I have supported various couples and have seen first hand how important it is for the birthing mother to have a great support person with her throughout pregnancy and birthing. calmbirth® is designed with the birthing partner as a key part of the experience. Partners are taught some simple but very connecting techniques of light touch massage, positive affirmations and an understanding of keeping the birthing women in a safe and loving environment. Classes are held in a warm and welcoming environment at Bateau Bay on the Central Coast. Client Testimonial- After having a c- section with our first child, my husband and I decided that we wanted to attempt an all natural birth with our second child. When we heard of calmbirth®, we felt this could be a useful tool in order to achieve what we wanted of our birth experience. Calmbirth® gave us the confidence that we could achieve what we wanted without the fear. Although my labour was long and hard, I was happy to have achieved my all natural birth. The breathing techniques gave me something else to focus on and the knowledge that I had gained during the classes reminded me that I was able to succeed even during those fleeting moments when I started to second guess myself. It was empowering to know that I was able to help myself. Thank you Marketa and Joel.

*After a long, well earned break, I am back and practicing again* I'm a Sydney Doula and Mum of four. I've been practicing as a Birth Support Person and Childbirth Educator since my first child's birth in 1994. I work within Sydney Eastern Suburbs, CBD and Inner West only. I attend hospital and home births in these areas (Royal Hospital for Women, Prince of Wales Private, RPA Women and Babies). I offer an extensive library of books and Dvd's to suit your choices and do not just offer you my favourite selections! I also have birth pools, TENS machines and breast pumps for my clients and the general birthing community for hire. I believe that birth is an organic process, and that women and their partners need to feel safe, prepared and supported during this time. It's important to have continuous and unbiased support and to feel that this very private experience unfolds as calmly and beautifully as you imagine. I do not take over. I do not act as your voice. I help you to stay on track, I support you and your partner, and I help you to birth just the way that you hope to. I will advocate for ANY choice that you make and will help you to educate yourself on those choices before the birth. Natural, medically assisted, surgical or completely unplanned - I will help you to ease into motherhood with knowledge and support.

I am a mother to 5 children all gently birthed into water, 4 birthed at home & with siblings in attendance. We have just welcomed baby number 5 on July12th 2009!! Another planned home water birth with siblings in attendance! Although my first birth was "natural" the midwife found it necessary to rupture membranes and to perform an episiotomy on me, regardless of my protest against both. My first birth experience, true for most, was less than fulfilling and I was seeking a better way to birth from there on. This sparked my already growing interest in homebirth and got me looking for better options. I completed my doula course in late 2006 but promptly found myself pregnant again with bub #4, as you do when you spend so many months eating, sleeping and breathing birth! Once bub reached a point where I felt that I could leave her for a while, I got myself out there and attended my first two clients exactly a week apart! I have since supported 3 more womyn and have birthed bub #5. As she is now 8 months old, I am feeling that I can again support womyn to birth and am getting back out there. I live in the Lower Blue Mountains west of Sydney and am happy to attend womyn from my area and the Western Sydney area. I attended a course on hypnobirthing for the birth of bub #4 and have used the techniques during the birth of my fourth and fifth baby. One of my recent clients used these techniques and I was so excited to support her! She did wonderfully, by the way! My aim is to support womyn, and their partners and families pre and post natally and to help them to realise their full potential while birthing their babies. I am there to advocate for you and to hold the space while you focus on the important task of bringing forth new life! Womyn are strong, capable, beautiful creatures and should all be allowed to birth naturally and with confidence in the process and their abilities. Womyn deserve to be well supported during this pivotal moment in their lives and my goal, regardless of where they choose to birth, is to be a catalyst in the movement towards reclaiming our birth experiences for ourselves, one birth at a time!

Mieke lives just outside of Bellingen, servicing Coffs Harbour and surrounds. Mieke studied Natural Medicine and Completed a Diploma of Homoeopathy in 2003 before studying to become a doula. By this stage Mieke and her husband Emanuel had four kids, three of which had been born at home with lay midwives and one in a Birthing Center with the assistance of a doula. All babies were born naturally without any intervention. In 2003, Mieke established the Coffs Coast Maternity Action Group which successfully campaigned for a publicly funded antenatal clinic for the area. She is currently coordinator of the much loved Pre and Postnatal Support Group ‘Bellingen Baby’. Her business, ‘Love to Birth’ has been described as a marvelous endeavor by a dedicated woman. The births of my beautiful babies have given me many insights into life, nature and humanity. Over time these ideas have formed the ‘Love to Birth’ concept. Loving to Birth is about embracing the physical and emotional transitions that take place during birth. It is my belief that love is a key that unlocks the secrets of birth and life. Through practicing love, honesty, kindness, compassion and sensitivity, many women are finding that they can experience birth as exhilarating, joyous and empowering. Mieke, Love to Birth

Natalie has worked with children for most of her life both as a nanny, childcare worker and is the oldest of 7 children. She has 2 children who were both born at home and it was the birth of her daughter in 2005 that led her down the Doula path. She was blessed with a long but very empowering birth and wanted to be sure that she could help women have the same experience no matter how they choose to give birth. She believes strongly that all women have the right to chose the birthing style right for them. Natalie has supported women at home, in hospitals and in birth centers and feels to be present at such a special moment for mothers and their partners and families is truly a blessing. She gave birth to her second baby,a boy, on mothers day 2008 with the help of a doula, a mother, 2 amazing midwives, a husband and her daughter. More information is available on my website - http://www.birthpartner.com.au I support couples with an open heart and mind, and help them to feel supported and safe, to help them achieve the birth they wish for. I enjoy being able to enhance a couple's teamwork, and to "serve" couples when they need assistance. I love being able to make a real difference to families' experience and memories of birth. In 2006 I studied with Marie Burrows of Birthing Rites Australia, the most intensive and comprehensive doula training course in Australia. This meant a full year of study, looking at both the physical and emotional aspects of birth. Marie herself, with over 35 years of experience in childbirth, is a great source of knowledge and her dedication is inspirational. I am now a mother of two, and I still remember the fear I felt as a first-time mum facing the labour. I was helped by others to overcome this fear, and discovered my own reserves of power and courage. I now try to help other couples in a similar way, and to help them also have a wonderful birth. As a doula I can make a real difference to the way couples experience birth.

Pauline, mother of 2, and 35 years old, has always felt drawn to children and has been a au-pair as early as 14. Babysitting and caring for children has always been her passion. But it wasn't untill she got her first baby in 2005 that something really 'clicked'. Being very afraid for the birth Pauline found out that in her home country (Holland) doula's weren't around, and if they were, they lived too far away. She followed yoga to ease her mind, and that set things in motion for her. She started becoming involved in learning how to (teach) baby massage, give pre-natal yoga lessons, and later on her second baby was born ( 2008).At this time she started her studies at the Australian Doula College, for she and her families dream came true; they got an Australian Visa. (PR). She started giving yoga lessons to pregnant woman and did partnering lessons as well, and worked together with a well-know Dutch Midwife company who were more than happy to help her. She did her first birth in Holland ( VBAC) and it was wonderful. She feels women should have a choice e.g. homebirthing or not, especially coming from a country where homebirth is the standard. She is also a post-natal doula, and has followed some studies in Holland about that. She wants to help the mother, but the family as well, and feels fine doing whatever needs to be done in order to make the experience of getting a baby the most wonderful. She is a certified doula and has experience with the Australian system as well.

Mother of four, Rebekah has been working with the tapestry of birth for 18 years. Women come to see me to help them create the birthing experience they want. For some it is a sacred, natural birth for others it is to heal the wounds or trauma from their previous eriences where they felt a loss of control or dignity. For others, it is supporting them on their c-section journey, where their babies have not turned or they are physically unable to give birth vaginally. Each woman is an honour to work with and the sharing of her story enriches and empowers all women who wish to enjoy and be involved and present during the birth of their baby. I wish that all women could see the beauty of birth which is why i created Creative Birth. It is a magnificent journey of the heart. We all need to get to that magic 10cm's yet, how we get there is unique to each and every woman and her partner.

I have always had a love for pregnancy, birth and motherhood. When I discovered the role of the doula in 2004 I was very excited to train and aquire the skills to support women and their families during the very personal and amazing time of pregnancy, birth and motherhood. I am blessed with a great husband and 3 wonderful kids. During each of my births I understood more of the birth process and the value of preparing for this time. I believe the role of the doula is a wonderful resource for women who are pregnant as they assist women in understanding what they hope for from their birth experience and also provide wonderful individualised, continuous care before, during and after your birth. I am available to support women and their families in the Coffs Harbour region of NSW.

I came to be a doula following my experiences in my first two births: a distressing failed induction leading to an emergency caesarean section followed two years later by a wonderful, empowering, joyful vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC) with a doula. This led me to a passionate commitment to birthing women and their partners, and supporting them through information and reassurance to achieve positive and rewarding births. I aim to create an environment that is secure and nurturing as well as ensuring that the couple is fully informed during any decision making and encouraging trust in the woman's ability to birth. I have had experience supporting women and their partners in a variety of circumstances.

I am a trainee doula offering women birth support during one of the most precious times of a woman’s life…pregnancy and birth. I am a happily married woman with a 13year old son and two teenage stepsons living on the lower North Shore. I recently completed my doula training at the Australia Doula College and am offering my services at a reduced rate as I still am a Trainee Doula. I believe that every woman has the right to choose the type of birth they would like; their preferred place of birth; the people they want around them and most importantly, they have the right to decide without judgment. As a trainee doula, I support parents by providing them with as much information and choice as is possible about birth so their birth experience is positive, rewarding and everything they wish for it to be. I provide emotional and physical support to the laboring woman and her partner and provide reassurance and perspective during the labour and birth.

Im Skie, Im a mother of three and i origionally studdied to be a doula in order to help me process my own birth experiences and to enable me as a mother, wife and member of society...I became passionate about the role as I went along...There a few positions as affirming honest and humble as that of a doula. I think community and support are profoundly important to family and something that has been all but lost in the West...I think doula helps to unearth an age old philosophy that works for family and therefore society...I bring to the table love, helping hands, compassion and gentleness to those I have the priveledge of working with.

Hi My name is Tanya, I am a mum to four beautiful children and I have recently completed my training with Optimum Birth. I live in Newcastle NSW and would be happy to travel to the Hunter Valley or the northern end of the central Coast. I am able to offer advice and support for you during your pregnancy as I understand it can be an extremely emotional time for you and your partner. I know there are some mother's out there too, that are doing it alone and I would feel extremely honored to assist you in your birth journey. I'm happy to be there for you through your entire labor, or simply just when you need me. Providing hands on support or soft words of encouragement. Perhaps just a hand to hold or someone to massage and help relax you. I also think it's very important for someone to be there to help support Dad as well, as I understand it can be an anxious time for him. I also would be right there with you for the first few weeks postpartum ,providing support in whatever form you may need- whether it be advice or help with swaddling, information on lactation or feeding your baby, or simply sourcing information for you. I am open to your idea's and support you in your decisions - I strongly believe that women have the right to a safe, comfortable and relaxed birth, wherever they choose. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi, my name is Trisha Cook and I am a 35 year old mum to 5 children. I received my training through Childbirth International and am a fully certified doula. Norwest Doula Services is located in Sydney's north west. Personally I have experienced a hospital birth, a birth centre birth, a caesarean, and 2 VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean) home waterbirths. For a long time now I have been interested in all things pregnancy and birth. I had thought about becoming a midwife but I feel that being a doula is my true calling. This is how Norwest Doula Services came about. I am not bound by a hospital schedule that has me finishing my shift half way through your labour. I can be with the parents from their pregnancy and follow them right through until after their baby is born. Some even coming back for their second babies. I am extremely passionate about VBAC's and assisting women to achieve their desired birth as much as I possibly can. My belief on birth is that it is a natural and everyday occurance. Childbirth is not something to be feared rather a time to enjoy and look forward to. No matter what your choices are in your birth I will be there to support you. I will provide you with information so you can make informed decisions regarding your birth. I want to help make your birth that enjoyable (yes it is possible) experience. Norwest Doula Services is located in Sydney's North West and I am central to various major hospitals in Sydney. If you are unsure feel free to contact me and ask. www.norwestdoulaservices.com.au

WEBSITE: www.freewebs.com/birthingbliss I am a mother of 2 beautiful little girls, my first was born via an uncomplicated vaginal birth and my second via caesarean section as she was breech. Having experienced both types of childbirth I feel I am confident and familiar when providing support in either situation. I have always had a passion for all things pregnancy, childbirth and newborn. It is for this reason I chose to become a doula and I love the personal side the doula profession has with an expectant mother/ couple. I am in my first year of university studying a Bachelor of Nursing with the intention of becoming a midwife. I believe in my role as a birth doula I recognise childbirth as a key life experience, understand the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman through labour, will help prepare a birth plan and advocate for the expectant parents, will stay by the mother's side throughout labour and birth, provide emotional, physical and informational support before, during and after childbirth, facilitate communication between the mother, her partner and clinical care providers and most importantly support all the decisions/ desires of the mother to be to the best of my ability.

I have been a doula for 4 years and am passionate about helping others have a natural birth, and I would feel very blessed to share the birthing journey with you. I have had the privilege of attending births at home, in birth centres and in public and private hospitals. These have included water births, an emergency caesarian which i was present for in the theatre (a rare privilege), and a birth to a lesbian couple. With many years of experience working as a nanny, I am qualified to look after any older siblings, if you would like them present to witness the birth of their little brother or sister. I am a volunteer for Homebirth Access Sydney and editor in chief for their quarterly magazine "Birthings". I will soon be the facilitator for Beer and Bubs workshops in the Sutherland Shire - training expectant Dads how to be a better birth support for their partners. I am also a herbalist, nutritionist and reiki master, and can incorporate herbs, flower essences and reiki massage into my practice to help you achieve a natural birth.
