I am a wife and mother of seven children and doula. I live in the beautiful Limestone Coast.
My desire to become a doula came after our seventh child was born at home three years ago, he was a VBAC and the support I received from my midwife, husband and close friend relieved all my own personal fears. My sixth child was delivered by emergency caesarean after she was brow presentation. I had previously had five beautiful births in hospitals and birth centres.
I realised how important birth support is and so my dream of becoming a doula was born.
In 2008 I became qualified as a doula.
It is such an honour to assist women and their families during one of the most precious times in their lives. The support I give is unbiased as there are many reasons for women choosing different birth choices, the important thing is that this is your baby, your birth and every person and plan is unique.
I will be unable to assist families from the 6th July until the end of August 2010 due to the impending birth of our 8th child however if a need arises I am always available for a chat on the phone. In my absence I highly recommend Elissa Westdorp-student midwife (UniSA) to assist you with one-on-one support.

I am a Mother of three young boys, an Enrolled Nurse and most excitedly a Doula! I have birthed three beautiful big babies myself and have always been passionate about working closely with birthing families. I was unaware of this truly amazing support and empowering energy a woman could bring to the transforming experience of birth until my third labour. I had the support of a birthing professional. Her presence, encouragement, touch and wisdom far exceeded my expectations and cemented my drive to impart that gift to other women. I endevour to nurture women through the transforming experience of birthing their babies. I bring an open mind and heart and am always honoured to be invited into the birth space.

In the years since the birth of my daughter I have evolved into working as a Doula, or birth support person. I had been working in a health and wellbeing profession as a yoga therapist, with some nursing studies behind me also. I bring a strong understanding of the anatomy and physiology of pregnancy and birth to my role, accompanied by a strong trust in the birthing process. Motherhood led me to become heavily involved with pregnancy and birthing groups, and mothers support networks. From this interest grew an enthusiasm whereby I realised that I could utilise my strengths as a health professional, alongside my compassion and open mindedness, to work in the field of birthing that I was so drawn to.
My own path through pregnancy and childbirth allowed me to understand how fundamentally important this is for the woman, her child, and her family. I wanted to be able to encourage and support women to take ownership of this life changing event by being able to offer them the support they feel they need.
I acknowledge that each person's path is vastly different, but it is the ability to work with the differences, and explore this journey again and again that excites me and drives me to work as a birth support doula.

I am wife to Romeo and an energetic Mother raising my seven beautiful children aged between 3 and 27 years. As a consumer, I have spent a lot of time with women from the Women’s & Children’s Hospital in South Australia sharing the physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and yoga classes and being invited to births and making lifelong friends. This is where I became very passionate for my strong advocacy for all women and encouraged by my midwives during my pregnancy in 1997, I began volunteering and training as a doula. I believe all women should have access to a supportive birth attendant and I feel I have a lot to offer and share due to my extensive experience attending births with women in their homes or in hospital, all very different and amazing experiences. I continue to support the Women’s and Children’s Hospital services for women, and along with my family, I appear in and help organise promotional material for educational purposes for mothers, partners, babies, siblings and families. I often assist in childbirth education classes for new parents and I am currently the public relations officer / spokesperson for Homebirth Network SA and active member of Birth Matters SA, CARES and committee member for Future Families, a growing conscious parenting group in SA. I am now running the Adelaide 'Beer + Bubs' (childbirth support workshops for Dad's) with my gorgeous colleague, friend & Doula Paula Bruckard. I enjoy volunteering in various community projects and have a strong sense of community and a great connection with my networks. I am also a trained fitness leader and have participated and run successful Kickfitness classes for all women whether pre-natal, pregnant or post-natal since the birth of my 4th child in 1998.
"My passion is to fully support women, their partners and family while bringing their new babies into this world, whether you birth in a public or private hospital or at home.
I support you to enhance your experiences and nurture your unique journey throughout pregnancy, birth and into parenthood with peace, love, beauty, grace and wisdom"

I am a wife and mother to three adorable children. I have experienced a caesarean birth with my first child followed by two positive and empowering, straight forward vaginal deliveries supported by an independent midwife. These were both achieved in the birthing units of two major hospitals in Adelaide.
I commenced my doula training with Optimum Birth in late 2007 and completed mid 2008. Since then, I have supported a dozen couples during pregnancy and birth in various settings including hospital and homebirth.
I am an advocate for VBAC and would be honoured to support any couple on their journey, allowing them to have a greater opportunity to achieve the birth they desire. I believe that for women to have a greater chance of successful VBAC, having a woman present who has herself experienced a medical delivery, will provide her with the extra oomph to get over the line.
I truly believe that a woman’s body is designed
to birth her child. Childbirth should not be a feared process, it should be embraced. Correct childbirth education, combined with a support team that supports you in your goals is the key to successful childbirth. What is successful childbirth? That no matter what the outcome, you feel respected, heard, communicated with, supported, nurtured and a part of the decision making process. I believe birth to be a natural event, and without medical intervention, the majority of women are able to have a straight forward, empowering experience.
I have been an active member CARES SA (Caesarean Awareness Education Recovery Support) since 2002 and my current administrative role is Web Woman where I manage and maintain their website. I also offer members phone support, email support, attend regular coffee meetings as well as help in the planning and facilitating of their big community events to raise public awareness. I am also a member and supporter of Birth Matters SA and regularly attend their information sessions and public seminars.
I am experienced in supporting first time birthing couples, VBAC women, inductions, caesarean section, hospital and homebirth with both Obstetricians and midwives. To be asked to be a doula/support person at anyone's birth is an absolute honour, and I would be delighted at the opportunity.

As any Doula would tell you, it is an absolute privledge to support women and their families through this magical, wonderful time. Birth is a natural process, and the more informed women and partners are, the better the outcome. I try to empower women to try and achieve what is possible in most cases, a natural unmedicated birth. Its all about choices, your birth YOUR way. I'm not here to tell you what to do, I'm here to arm you with information, support your choices and be there for YOU.
A good birth, is an informed birth! I am also a Childbirth Educator, certified through the Royal Women's Hospital in Melbourne and hopefully will be accepted into UniSA next semester to train as a Midwife.
I am a mother of 8 children. 6 were natural births, 1 epidural and the last one emergency c-section.

Hi, I'm Kirsten. It was through the experience of having my first daughter that called me to becoming a Doula to help women achieve the most positive experience as possible as they become parents for the first or subsequent time.
Based in the Barossa, I service such areas as Gawler, Adelaide, Adelaide Hills and Clare and am always willing to negotiate further travel.
Being a doula is amazing; it is such an honour to be invited to support someone. Just as each woman is different, so is each birth. I am constantly learning and developing with each new experience and meeting fantastic people along the way. Watching women make the transition from being pregnant to new mum is such a beautiful moment.
I will be by your side, supporting you in whichever way you need. I am able to assist you physically and emotionally in a whole variety of ways throughout your pregnancy, labour and after your baby is born. How you would like me to support you is all up to you!
I firmly believe that there is no such thing as too much support when having a baby!

Hi my name is Melissa Serafin. I live in Loxton. I am a wife and mother of 3 beautiful boys. My inspiration to become a doula came from my struggle to come to terms with the birth of my first son - 23 hours of labour and subsequent emergency caesarean section. I studied and gained information on having a VBAC (Vaginal Birth after Caesarean) and began the journey of attempting my own VBAC.
During this time I felt lonely, stressed and very afraid. I felt there was little encouragement or support for me.
However after experiencing a hospital VBAC birth with my second son, it gave me the inspiration to share my knowledge and be there to support and encourage women to give birth the way they had planned and not the way they were being told to.
In October I had a homebirth with our third son WOW !!! Every women should have the chance to do that.
Pregnancy and birth should be an amazing experience for you and your partner and it would be an honour to help you achieve your dreams.
