Amanda, since the brith of her own children has shared a passion for birthing and helping women and their partners achieve the birth of their dreams. Her first birth was c-section due to breech presentation, her second birth was a beautiful vaginal delivery. She shared the joys of both births and now feels so honoured to attend the births of other women and their partners. Every birth is filled with such wonder and joy and should be celebrated as such.
Knowledge is Power
When you are planning a family and having children you are in a wonderfully transformative and gratifying stage of life. Unfortunately many women's experience of this time is complicated by fear, confusion and feelings of helplessness. Women often talk about this powerful period as something they want to get over with as quickly as possible—this is a tremendous loss. The childbearing years can be a cherished and empowering phase instead of an anxious and painful one.
We are complex creatures comprised of body, mind and spirit. Nowhere is this more clearly expressed than during the birthing experience.
Every parent and baby has the right to a safe and satisfying birth experience. Through active participation in the process families can realistically expect this life changing event to be a joyful celebration.
Amanda at Pure Birth provides all kinds of support and resources for expecting parents. No matter where you are in the process and what choices you make about the birth of your child, Pure Birth can help you create a happy and healthy birth experience.

I am passionate about supporting women to have the best birth they can have, one where they feel confident, strong, empowered and informed. I have been actively involved in various birth support groups for about seven years now and am one of the founders of Caesarean Awareness Network Australia. I am a mum to three boys, two which were born by caesarean (one unplanned and one elective for medical reasons) and one who was my VBAC baby. It was my last birth that planted the seed for me to become a birth doula. I had such an ecstatic natural birth and immediately realised what I’d missed out on the first time... all because I lacked support and continuity of care. As a doula, I aim for my clients to feel confident, empowered, supported, and nurtured through pregnancy, birth and in the early days of parenting a new baby and I absolutely love being with a woman in labour! Women are awesome! As a doula trained by DONA International, I am skilled in assisting women to work through labour using natural pain relief and active birthing techniques which minimise the need for pain relief medication and avoidable interventions. I am currently completing certification with DONA International so am offering interim rates until my certification is complete. I have already completed most of the requirements of certification. Further details and updates of my service can be found on my website: mumatopia.com.

My aim is for you to experience a birth which results in you feeling safe, supported, respected, nurtured, fulfilled and empowered. Congratulations on your pregnancies! I am a Doula-in-training, experienced Mum to one, based in Brisbane. I am training with Childbirth International and have completed all my course reading, exams, and certifying births as well now having attended paying customers - I just haven't got around to typing up my book reviews!
As I am still lacking the formal certificate I am only charging an interim fee.
As a Doula my philosophy is - It's your body, your beliefs, your birth, your baby. I will support you in delivering your baby the way that you want to, providing as much information and education as you need, and supporting you through the birth so that you can focus on nothing at all but birthing your baby.
I live on the Northside of Brisbane, and am happy to support births in the home or hospital within a 30km radius (including the Mater, RBWH, Caboolture, Redcliffe hospitals as well as the many private hospitals on the Northside).
My email address is birthbalancebeginnings@gmail.com, and I would be privileged to hear from you. You may also be interested to learn that I am a Civil Celebrant - if a naming ceremony for your baby is of interest.

I am a Registered Nurse and Mothercraft (baby nurse), and I have been a Doula for 6 wonderful years. Before training to become a Doula, I studied Midwifery at university and completed most of my course before leaving to have my first beautiful boy. I now have 3 gorgeous boys who are the pride and joy of my life.
I have been passionate about pregnancy, birth and babies for as long as I can remember. At school, I would focus my Art on sculptures and paintings of pregnant women and I began working with babies from the age of 17.
After the birth of my first son, I came to realise how much modern midwifery practices lacked the true 'one on one' support that mothers in labour require to go on and have beautiful births. When I discovered Doulas, the heavens opened and I haven't looked back since. I am now able to spend time with a woman throughout her pregnancy, where we can get to know each other and build a trusting relationship. When the big moment arrives, I am able to provide her with continuous support that she may not receive in hospital. It is well documented that women who have continuous support in labour have better outcomes than women who have intermittent support.
Throughout the years that I have been working as a Doula, I have supported many amazing births and have met many beautiful and powerful women who will remain life long friends.

I have been passionately involved in couples birthing journeys for the last 9 years; as a midwife, childbirth educator and private birth consultant incorporating my role as a doula. My desire is that all couples come through this life experience feeling strong, confident and capable and having had the best birth possible. For this to happen, which ever path it may take couples need to know how and why your birth experience will have an impact, how to best support yourselves physically and emotionally and how to be able to ascertain full and relevant information so that you can make your journey based in information and support not on fear.
Birth can be wonderful, and amazing, and – yes –full-on…but birth does not have to be scary.
I offer unique education that fills the current gap in regular antenatal classes, and what I have seen that couples really need. Via your sessions with me, you will learn skills to enable you to make any birth an empowering experience.
Your partner will be able to support you with the confidence that comes from understanding birth, learning about our hospital system, and finding out just what you will need from him. I can support you to plan your child’s arrival … with careful thought, with the strength that comes from having the right knowledge, and with appropriate support. My aim is to support you to help you to have a better birth.
Birth is not just a way to get our babies out and should not be experienced as something unfortunate we have to do or as being traumatic.
We cannot pre-determine or control the path of our labour or birth. However the up-side is that birth is designed to be a positive experience that leads us into our new role as parents. We do not have to be powerless in how we experience our birth, and it is important that we feel safe and cared for. Every couple should be able to come through their birth experience feeling uplifted and with a strong foundation for their futures.

My wish as a Doula is for women to feel supported in their choices, in their birth experience and that they feel respected and honoured whilst discovering the experience of birthing their baby. After my own birth experience I felt there was a need to support women and help women experience birth for what it is, a natural, normal and exciting part of life. I want to help women to see that birth is not just a medical experience. I strongly believe that, throughout pregnancy, birth and the postnatal perioed, every woman deserves to be supported and nurtured, more so than perhaps any other time in her life.

Hi my name is Kassandra Lee (Benfer). I am a qualified doula who has supported women on their birthing journeys since 2007. I am a certified Hypnobirthing practictioner and in early 2010 I will be expanding my professional repertoire to include ‘Conscious Birth’ (yoga programme) and the amazing ‘Birth into Being’ techniques of Elena Tonetti -Vladmirova as seen in her world renown video ‘Birth as we know it’.
I have studied half (18 months) of my bachelor of midwifery at ACU but have taken a break due to the uncertainty of the future of homebirth midwifery. I believe I am better able to live out my passion of preparing and supporting women in birthing when not part of a hospital team restricted by policy and politics. As a doula there is even greater freedom from paperwork and routine obs – I am able to be 100% fully present for the mother.
I have a four year old son who was born naturally at Tweed Heads Hospital. I trust birth and know that every woman deserves the love and support of the people around her to hold the space and feed her confidence in her ability to birth her baby vaginally.
Prepare your body, your mind and your spirit as best you can and let your birthing unfold as it will.

Lauren Petrofski Click here to read more about this doula »
Hi! My name is Lauren. I am a Registered Nurse, doula and the mother of one little boy. I love hearing birth stories; especially after the birth of my son in April 2009 I loved to ask other women to tell me how their labour and birth went. I have been a Registered Nurse since 2003, graduating from Griffith University. I began employment in a small Children’s Ward at Ipswich Hospital and became acquainted with the midwives in the Postnatal Ward and Special Care Nursery on the same floor. I loved watching the midwives at work and took much interest in what they do. On one occasion I enquired about doing my midwifery. A colleague turned me off the idea however explaining that the profession has become too clinical. It was a rarity for them to arrive on a shift and nurse a birth suite full of spontaneous, natural vaginal deliveries. It seemed like inductions, epidurals and caesareans were always on the menu; and the midwives were all the more worse for wear because of it. Believe it or not, most midwives enjoy that special part of their job where they are the supporter and nurturer. As the year’s end approached, I felt as though going back to Children’s Ward after my maternity leave was not an option. I wanted to work with pregnant women and healthy newborns...protecting them and encouraging them. I know the hospital system well and I wanted to be an advocate for women while they birthed in the labour wards; so that their births are not constrained by protocols but at the same time safe and unique. So here I am now, a doula, ready and waiting for you. No longer do I have catheters or Paracetamol in my hand while I care for you, but tenderness and sustenance…to give you the best birth and a memory to last a lifetime.

Hi I'm Lauren!
I am passionate about birth and understand how beautiful and special the birth of your baby should be for you. When a woman gives birth surrounded by loving, supportive people and remains aware and in control of her experience, birth is an achievable, enjoyable, miraculous occurrence that you really will be able to say was "the best day of your life".
I have two beautiful girls and two completely different birth stories. My first daughter's birth was traumatic, terrifying and seriously undermined my first few months as a mum. I was terrified of giving birth a second time. So, during my second pregnancy, I hired a doula and educated myself on ways I could cope throughout my birth. As a realut, my second daughter's birth was beautiful, empowering, healing, accomplished! Knowledge, and the comfort and support of a Doula, made all the difference. From my personal experiences I have found a passion for helping other women experience the very best birth they can, through compassionate, knowledgeable, continuos birth support. I would be truly honored to be part of your birth.

I am very excited to be able to support women in the Far North Queensland (Ingham to Innisfail) during their birth journey as a doula. It is something that I have been drawn to over a long period of time.
I was first given the honour of supporting my sister during her first birth when I was only 17 - despite dire warnings of well meaning family! Since that time, over 16 years ago, I have gone onto support more family and friends during their special time.
I also have three of my own children and my personal birthing experiences have been in both a hospital and a homebirth setting.
After the birth of my second child, I took on studies with the Australian Breastfeeding Association and was a volunteer counsellor for over 6 years. My experience through the ABA has given me a unique perspective on the different journeys that mothers go through during their pregnancy, birth and beyond.
I have also come to appreciate the importance of providing women with research-based information; an outline of the choices available and then to actively support their decision. I firmly believe that when women take control of the decision making process and trust their instincts, they have much more positive experiences and outcomes.
As your Doula, I will provide you with information, emotional and physical support during your exciting journey, in whatever capacity you need.

I am deeply passionate about childbirth and believe that one to one care from a midwife or doula is the key to a better birthing experience.
Childbirth is normal and the medicalisation of childbirth has removed much of what is wonderful from the experience. As a doula I try to bring into the room a sense of calm and confidence in the women. I have helped many women through their labour, with massage, hugs, homeopathy, talking, movement, normalising, and offering alternatives to the offered medical pain relief.
Taking the pressure off the partner to be the sole carer without pushing him out is also something I feel is important so I can . Its a team effort and we have a common aim
- a fantastic birth that in no way compromises the health of the mum or the baby.
As your doula I will help with birth plans, the labour, birth and postnatal period.

Hi, I am Pernille Powell and I am a certified advanced doula and a childbirth educator on the Sunshine Coast. I come from Denmark and have lived in Australia with my Australian husband since 1998. I have always been fascinated by bellies and birth, but it was the birth of my two precious children, it was the challenges, the rewards and those big feelings from birthing them that got me started on my dream of being with women in birth.
During my two pregnancies and births I experienced first hand the difference that feeling safe, respected and nurtured can make and how powerfully this can affect your start to motherhood.
I am compassionate about women and couples having the support they need, compassionate about helping couples have a positive birth experience regardless of how and where it happens.
I am very passionate about emotional preparation for birth, and in helping women to understand how their body works, be conscious of fears and worries and clear about their wishes and preferences.
Bringing new life into this world is one of the most important, challenging and rewarding journeys you can take. For me being with a couple through the process to become parents is the most honourable job imaginable. It is not important to me how and where you choose to have your baby, only that you feel supported, respected and nurtured.
So if you are looking for that something extra for your birth, for nurture and empowerment, please don’t hesitate to call me.

Pregnancy and childbirth has always been something that I have been very interested in and drawn too. Pregnancy, and the birth of my own 2 daughters, added an even stronger sense of understanding to my feelings about pregnancy & birth. I now know that this passion is deeply seeded within me. This gave me the realization that being involved in birth work, some way-some how, was what I was born to do.
Birth is a beautiful natural process which every woman and her family should be able to experience and understand.

I'm a mother of two young children with a life-long passion for birth, and extensive experience as a doula both in hospital settings (public and private) and at home.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by all things pregnancy, birth and baby. For many years before formally training as a doula, my “inner doula” supported friends and relatives through their pregnancies and early parenting experiences. But I always yearned to do something more.
I believe that birth is an intensely personal and intimate experience, which holds so much power and potential to mould the mothers we become. Your memories of your baby’s birth, whether they be positive or negative ones, will remain with you for life. Through birthing your baby on your own terms, you will gain confidence in your inborn ability to mother well - the benefits of this confidence will last your baby and your family a lifetime.
I’m passionate about helping the women I work with achieve the best possible birth, however they define it. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch their confidence grow as we work together before the birth, and to see their satisfaction and sheer joy when their babies are born and they realise “they did it!”.
